With the holiday season finally here, the season of giving and being charitable has also arrived for many of us. So when the kind folks over at Lindsay Olives (you might remember my Bloody Olivia drink that was sponsored by them) approached me yet again with a wonderful giveaway for my readers, I did not hesitate. Lindsay Olives is selling beautiful fresh handmade wreaths made from olive, bay and eucalyptus branches on their website with all the proceeds going towards the The Meals on Wheels Association of America.
The Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) is the oldest and largest national organization in the United States representing those programs that provide meals to people in need. MOWAA's mission is to end senior hunger by 2020. With our economy still trying to recover, programs like these are definitely in high demand. If this is a cause that you find worthy to support you can donate directly (remember, no donation is ever to small, even a few dollars can help), or you can purchase one of the gorgeous wreaths from Lindsay Olives by either ordering online or by calling (800) 765-2029 . The wreaths come in two sizes, a 12-inch and a 16-inch, are reasonably priced, make for beautiful holiday decorations or gifts and best of all you can support a great cause.
For the giveaway, Lindsay Olives generously offered me two of their 16-inch wreaths to give away to two of my wonderful readers. I'm thinking that is certainly a fantastic way to kick off the season!

ReplyDeleteShriner's Children's Hospital and The Ronald McDonald House are both charities I donate to very heavily. I have visited a Ronald McDonald House in Portland and it really touched my heart to see how the money gets used. Having a child of my own I am thankful every day for his health and my heart is heavy for those who aren't as blessed as I am. I truly believe on Americans helping other Americans first and Meals on Wheels has an incredible program. In high school I volunteered with them and delivered meals to those in need. I helped my teenage son organize a neighborhood food drive. We gave the food to a local organization that provides food to the hungry...right before Thanksgiving.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway for a worthy cause. We try to step it up during the holidays, giving to local food banks. For those family members who have everything already, we do gift donations to Heifer international. We also have our kids pick out new toys for Toys for Tots.
My sister linked one of your recipes which looked delicious and I've been following your blog on my rss feed ever since but I haven't commented before. The lovely wreath inspired me to speak up though. :) We always donate to the local food banks during the holiday season. When my children get bigger, I'm planning to start volunteering but right now they're too little.

Great giveaway, Susi! Thanks for hosting this. This year, my grandfather passed away from kidney cancer so I will be donating a sum of money to the National Kidney Foundation as a Christmas gift to his wife, my grandmother.

ReplyDeleteMy husband and I will donate money to charities this Christmas and ask his parents to do the same. We don't need all of these material posessions and it will feel good to start this charitable tradition.

ReplyDeleteLet's see, where do I start...well, I'm constantly involved with donations to Goodwill, not just from me, but from members of my family, as well. Every week I have a huge bag of decent and good stuff to donate, not to mention larger items that they come to pick up.
Also, during the holidays, give a nice $$$donation to the Salvation Army, to feed the hungry, especially for the holidays.
Also, at my son-in-law's restaurant there's always some type of luncheon party event going on, and they always leave the leftovers, to be donated to local church food kitchens that same day, to be served there at dinner time.
Also donate lots of great toys and new ones for the Toys for Tots foundation, every Christmas.
So good to see you! That's a lovely wreath, and for a wonderful cause. So far this holiday season I've made contributions to our local food bank and Toys for Tots. I also volunteer year-round at our local opportunity shop, which sells donated items at low cost and uses the proceeds to support local charities and non-profit organizations.

ReplyDeleteHi Susi! I hope you're feeling better. This Christmas we are going to donate to Salvation Army and donate some used toys that my son is willing to "give back to Santa" for kids that don't have as many toys.

I regularly support, and will continue to support this holiday season, the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, an invaluable homeless shelter in the inner city that literally saves lives and relieves suffering by providing food and basic necessities, educational/job training skills, and spiritual support to the most needy individuals among us.

I'm going to start volunteering at a local children's home...I have a few more paperwork items to take care of, but I can hardly wait to start volunteering. I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are feeling better! I give to my select charities every year as a Christmas present to myself. St. Judes and animal rescues. It's also the perfect time to donate unused items which is why I cleared out two big bags of clothes during our move.

ReplyDeletewell, we donated a lot of our kids stuff to a local houston charity that helps families and kids in need. also, I want to do angel tree with my kids this year. as a kid I would do that with my parents and it was so much fun. I think they are finally to the age where they can sorta understand. that's the plan!

ReplyDeleteWe are going to have a "benefit dinner" at our home. We are providing all the food and drinks. We invited 20 of our closets friends and we ask them to at least make a $30 donation. All the money raised will go to Relay for Life. We are very active and involved in the Relay for Life chapter in our town.

ReplyDeleteThe wreaths are so beautiful Susi! I am buying gifts for a child in need - I pick a tag (or two) off a tree at the mall with their list on it and then shop for them. I think meals on wheels is awesome! I know lots of people who benefit from their meals.

ReplyDeletei've been furiously purging so i can donate to goodwill (lots of people needs things in the winter and shop in their stores so this is a great time to do this).
ReplyDeletemy office is also doing a food drive for our local pantry so i've been making a point of picking up some non-perishables on sale whenever i go grocery shopping.
Every year we donate food to the Food Bank, clothes to shelters and salvation army, toys for tots. I want to participate in a soup kitchen or something like that my it freaks my husband out so I will wait till my kids are school age and sneak out ;)
